Entry #5: Higher Education is the American Dream

There are several pathways to higher education and Arizona has a goal to make these pathways more well-known. Some people choose to not achieve a higher education while others go to a trade school or get different levels of degrees. After reading the articles "Ducey: Why Arizona needs more college grads" and "Earnings potential goes up a lot for Arizonans with college degrees. Here's how much" it is apparent that higher education plays an important role in the American dream.

Higher education brings forward more opportunities one of them being a better salary. In "Earnings potential goes up a lot for Arizonans with college degrees. Here's how much" the author Madeleine Parrish talks about the different average salaries that are made in Arizona based on education level. It is shown that the higher education the higher the salary is made. This fact helps push people to pursue higher education.
In the article "Ducey: Why Arizona needs more college grads" previous Governor Doug Ducey also talks about how higher education typically helps with financial stability. The financial stability is due to being able to earn a higher wage. Ducey also mentions "more than two-thirds of future jobs are expected to require education beyond high school". Since more jobs are expecting higher education and they tend to have a higher salary more people are going to school.
With more people working towards higher education, this is another step forward in achieving the American dream for many families. The American dream is to be able to have the freedom and opportunities to succeed and achieve a better life. Arizona has a goal to have 60% of the Arizona population to have a degree or certificate (Doug). This goal is an attempt to help people achieve the American Dream.

  1. I agree with you. It’s clear that higher education can really open doors for financial stability and a better quality of life. It’s interesting to see Arizona pushing for more people to pursue degrees or certificates, especially with future jobs requiring more advanced education. Achieving the American Dream seems more tied to education than ever before.
